1KD-FTV, a 109 horsepower derated motor whose tuning is the simplest;
1KD-FTV 136 HP – an upgraded gas distribution system equipment;
modified ignition and cooling system for the 1KD-FTV 163 HP;
redesigned attachments, control setup, and piston design for the 1KD-FTV 170 HP;
173 HP in the 1KD-FTV, maximum power.
Frequent problems
Aluminum pistons on these engines frequently fractured up until 2011; injectors dislike dirty gasoline and can clog up to 100,000 kilometers;
The motor is susceptible to coking with rings and oil grease; vibrations are indicators of a fractured piston that occasionally occurs with a Euro-4 engine; difficulties with the unstable operation of the internal combustion engine are resolved by adjusting the valves;
White smoke and low oil pressure were issues with versions built between the end of 2004 and 2007. It is advised to swap the low-quality copper washers under the nozzles out for standard aluminum ones.
Specifications, issues, and reliability of the Toyota 1KD-FTV 3.0 D-4D engine
In 2000, the Toyota 1KD-FTV (or 3.0 D-4D engine) debuted. The Toyota 120-Series LandCruiser Prado received the engine first, and the 150-Series received it later. Also available for installation in the Toyota Mk.7 Hilux, Toyota Mk.5 HiAce, and Toyota Hilux Surf was this 3.0 liter diesel engine (Toyota 4Runner). The Toyota KZ engine series was replaced by the 1KD engines. The new Toyota GD engine, the 2.8L 1GD-FTV, is quickly replacing the 3.0 liter variant, though.
The cast iron cylinder block of the 1KD-FTV engine includes two counter-rotating balance shafts that are powered by a gear on the crankshaft. There are no liners in the engine block. A forged crankshaft with eight weights and five primary journals is located inside the cylinder block. To lessen noise and vibration, the crankshaft pulley features a torsional rubber damper.
