1997-00 2986CC 4 CYLINDER SOHC IN HILUX 5L 71 kw (95 horsepower) at 4000 revs and 200 Nm at 2000 revs. The 5L engine was built from 1997 to 2005 and used in the Hilux and Hiace van. The 5L’s power outputs were pretty close to those of its older brother, the 3L, producing 141 ft. lb (191 Nm) of torque and 89.8 hp (67 kilowatt) at 4,000 rpm. The 5L engine comes in two different forms. The 5L is the name of one variety, while the 5L-E, a separate animal, is the name of the other.
The 5L-E uses an efi rotary pump fuel injection system that is completely dependent on an ECU and wiring harness in contrast to the conventional 5L’s mechanical rotary pump fuel injection system, so be careful to know which of the two you require.
